Offshore Development

Transition

Situational Analysis

The customer made a strategic decision to enhance its customer service offering and to reduce time and staff expenditure on technology support. The customer required long-term and ongoing application development, enhancement and maintenance of its products. The scale of the client's development middleware platform and technical complexities added to the project's steep learning curve. Besides that, the client required logistics domain knowledge is a barrier to the transition success.

Strategic Approach

  • 3 transition engineers onsite to ensure knowledge transferred properly.
  • Peer working between Bleum and client's IT engineers.
  • Involve into client's business activities to gain logistics domain knowledge.
  • Build Knowledge Base to provide comprehensive documentation of system/application/processes/methodologies/procedures/guidelines.
  • Build and test offshore facility and connectivity to ensure the quality of remote delivery when onsite.
  • Deliver several pilot projects to demonstrate the effect of knowledge transfer.

Results

  • An Offshore ADM team was built with 15 positions at Bleum China.
  • The Knowledge Base was completed, and all maintenance methodologies and operational guidelines were fully documented.
  • Infrastructure and facilities were built to support ongoing business.
  • Successfully delivered the pilot project in 3 months.

Benefits to Customer

  • Less Impact – 3 transition engineers completed the onsite knowledge transfer, reducing impact in both cost and disruption to their operations.
  • Risk Migration – Since all transferred knowledge was well documented, the transition process will continue to benefit the offshore delivery team.
